A pioneerrin of the abstractten expressionismus is back in Europe after more than 50 years in a major retrospektive: Lee Krasner. The exhibitionlung at the SCHIRN tells the story of one of the most unbeirrbarsten artistslerinnes of the 20th century. Yearhunderts. Presented is the overallwork of the U.S. Amerikanerin, thereinAmpersandshy;ter selfporträts, actdarstellungen in charcoal, the strictly geometrischen Little Images or wegweisende paintings of the Prophecy series, experimentelle mainworks of the Umber and Primary series, and late collagen. Lee Krasner was a member of the American Abstract Artists and cultivated friendschaften to Ray Eames, Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline. For a long time she stood as an artistlerin the shadowten of her husband Jackson Pollock. After his untimely death in a carunfall in 1956, she decided to use Pollock's studio, ushering in a new phase of her arttistry.x>Ampersandshy;leris career. It wasn't untiltimes that she was able to get on monumentalen, not onzogenen Leinwänden arbeiten. It emergedden some of their most significanttendst work, including. "The Guardian," "Happy Lady," "Combat," or "Siren," among others. Unlike other artistslerinnes and artistsartists of their time, who painted evenif ungensteadilyly, developedrinrinrinn.x>Ampersandshy;cked Krasner never a "signature style," but reflekted her practice with the claim to always reinventher imaged.

The exhibitionlung will be kurated and organisiert vom Barbican Centre, London in Kooperation mit der SCHIRN, dem Zentrum Paul Klee, Bern und dem Guggenheim, Bilbao.
