In the work SCHREI MICH NICHT AN, KRIEGER! created especially for the rotunda of the SCHIRN, sculptor Lena Henke reacts to the specific conditions of the freely accessible, public space. In her installation, Henke focuses on the ambiguous spatial function of the Rotunda, thus sensitizing the viewer to the specificity of the site.
The artist positions two aluminum sculptures, open at the top and filled with sand, in the two opposite entrances to the Rotunda. Henke guides the viewer's gaze upwards through a color system that emphasizes the architecture to open windows of the circumambulations, in which sand also lies. From there, the sand trickles out through coarse-meshed metal roller grilles and into the sculptures. Visitors can walk around the rotunda, walk through the sand and thus also influence the circulation. At the same time, the form of the objects becomes visible from up there in the exterior space: They are two large-format eyes. The association of sand in the eye - an unpleasant feeling that goes hand in hand with discomfort and pain - is obvious.
