The novella Lenz by Georg Büchner deals with the historical figure of the artist Jakob Reinhold Michael Lenz, whose genius and tragic fate are still able to exert great fascination - especially on a young audience - today.
Not for nothing does the curriculum of the Hessian Ministry of Culture for the subject German recommend Büchner's Lenz several times as a textual stimulus for thematic complexes such as State and Revolution, External World and Internal World or The World in Upheaval.
Büchner's narrative as well as material from Lenz' dramatic works, his letters, his poetry, and prose form the foundation of Thomas Hupfer's dramatization, whose theatrical production shows a modern man, between excessive demands and creativity, overconfidence and self-sacrifice, empathy and loneliness, with all his longings for freedom and independence.
