Concert introduction at 17:00 with Jordi Savall in the Mozart Hall
That a continent is by no means based on a common tradition is demonstrated by Jordi Savall in the first programme of an intense weekend of concerts. Good old Europe will be the starting point for the Focus Festival, which Jordi Savall is organising for the Alte Oper - and on the first Focus Day it will also be the symbol of Savall's cosmopolitan career: the realisation of how numerous the influences on European music are and how the most diverse cultures meet in it drives the gambist again and again to listen far beyond the edge of Europe and to let countries and times enter into a fascinating dialogue. With a cornucopia of European viol music from the late Renaissance to the early Baroque, Savall invites us on a lively listening journey across Europe, stopping off at the art-loving courts of Venice, England, France, Spain, Portugal and Germany.
