Tim Plegge bases his new creation with the Hessisches Staatsballett on the 1909 play "Liliom" by Ferenc Molnár, which takes a look behind the facade of bourgeois society.

In their search for a better life, the protagonists of Suburban Legend ask themselves the timeless question of whether a person can change or whether we always remain the same after all. How does this spiral of life work, where we keep passing the same issues and falling into the same patterns? Can we do anything to break out of it? And where does this spiral actually lead? Where is this better life? For Liliom, a carousel crier who is as charming as he is hot-tempered, this quest is his undoing. He has, because he stood up for Julie and rebelled against the carousel operator, lost his job. Julie stays with him and therefore also loses her job.

But living and loving freely beyond a supposedly perfect bourgeois world at subsistence level fails. Julie's unconditional devotion, which Liliom finds hard to bear, doesn't help either. His loving speechlessness therefore repeatedly leads to violence. When Julie is expecting a child and the situation comes to a head, Liliom gets carried away with a robbery that fails.

At the same time, he is actually convinced: "a Hendelfanger and a no-good guy . there can still be a human being." But in the end, he blows even his second chance when the sky staff sends him to Earth once more to do good.

The Hessian State Orchestra Wiesbaden plays.
