The artistic talent of the daughter of the well-known Frankfurt building contractor Philipp Holzmann was recognized early on and encouraged by professional teachers. Like some other female artists of her generation, the opportunity afforded her to emancipate herself without confrontation with the upper-middle-class circles in which she had grown up and to which she remained attached throughout her life. Influenced by her youth in the imperial era and her marriage to the officer Hans von Schauroth, who came from Prussian nobility, which ended with a tragic riding accident as early as 1909, she remained conservative and monarchist in her art as well as in her attitude. She herself used every opportunity to familiarize herself with the most diverse techniques of applied art. In the beginning, her special focus was on poster art, which was still very young at the time. Later she concentrated mainly on the design of mosaics and stained glass windows. Lina von Schauroth's enthusiasm for equestrianism, her commitment as an animal rights activist found their expression in the corresponding motifs in her works.
As a Germanist, historian, freelance journalist and editor-in-chief of the online version of the Frankfurt Personenlexikon and native dialect speaker, Dr. Sabine Hock covers a wide range of topics on history and culture especially but also on personalities of the city of Frankfurt.
