For 40 years, the Jürgen Ponto Foundation has supported young artists at the beginning of their careers. The partnership with the MMK enables scholarship holders from the field of visual arts to exhibit their work at the MMK 3. The 2016/17 scholarship holders Richard Leue and Lisa Pahlke come from the Dresden University of Fine Arts, where both developed a genuine artistic expression during their studies.
The examination of the line as a space-defining and modeling entity is characteristic of Lisa Pahlke's (*1987) large-format works on paper, which evoke associations with abstract landscape depictions. Lined up densely, the felt-tip pen lines drawn by the artist produce organic structures that suggest mobility and thus, as it were, challenge the limits of our perception.
As part of his Ponto Fellowship, Richard Leue (*1986) traveled to northern Iraq, where he recorded his impressions of the people and their lives in different ways: his figurative drawings represent snapshots that bring to mind both the living conditions of the population and the conflict-ridden present of northern Iraq, where the so-called Kurdish autonomous region is located today.
