The story of Livingston began in 2000 in Pretoria, South Africa, when guitarist Chris van Niekerk met Beukes Willemse at a concert. The two hit it off right away and played music together for two years. When Willemse realized that the only way to fulfill the dream of his music career was to leave South Africa, he made his way to London, van Niekerk following him.
In London, after various jam sessions, the two met their first bassist, Dane Martin Arnoldi, who was replaced in 2005 by Norwegian Christoffer Borud and eventually by current bassist Phil Magee, who hails from England. Shortly after, Italian drummer Paolo Serafini also found his way into the band. Finally, German Jakob Nebel, who was discovered by Willemse one night, joined the band.
