35 years ago, Britain went to war against Argentina. In trenches and hand-to-hand combat, man to man. In the Kingdom, the war over the Falklands is now all but forgotten, but in Argentina, the Malvinas - the name of the barren archipelago there - are still ubiquitous. In Argentine director Lola Arias's documentary MINEFIELD, hailed in London as one of the best plays of the season, six former soldiers meet on stage, hostile to each other at the time. MINEFIELD dissects the mechanisms of warlike conflicts, the emergence of enemy images and hatred, the pop-culture propaganda, the mendacious hero myths. On the other hand, the protagonists tell their personal stories with touching sincerity and it becomes palpable what killing on behalf of a government does to people.
