When Lucas Debargue first presented himself at the Alte Oper last year, he was almost still considered an insider tip. Frankfurt was able to get to know an extraordinarily serious, yet equally unconventional young man. Since then, his career has picked up even more speed, but he goes his way calmly and uncompromisingly. When he now accepts our invitation for another recital, he will bring with him works by only one composer, but the programme is by no means one-dimensional: the pianist will devote himself exclusively to Domenico Scarlatti on this evening, and this is not the first time he has done so. On Debargue's highly praised debut album, the Italian already had his say with a small selection of his immensely multifaceted sonatas. Even then Debargue proved how much these gems suit him. His precise and crystal-clear touch allows a wonderfully transparent impression of Scarlatti's virtuoso art, which in Debargue's playing, however, never loses itself in mere virtuosity, but is allowed to play out all its different characters.
