Mac DeMarco is 28-year-old Canadian musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer and video artist MacBriare Samuel Lanyon DeMarco. His third album "This Old Dog" (Captured Tracks) found itself on many "album of the year" lists. The Guardian described him, as a "tropical lounge lizard unleashing his inner beast"
On "This Old Dog" you hear mostly acoustic guitar, drum machines, synthesizers and DeMarco's sleepy, relaxed vocals. He plays all the instruments himself. The synthesizers are more rooted than on his previous releases, but even so, DeMarco is careful not to let them overshadow the rest of the instruments and the "unplugged" feel of the album. Or as he explains, "This is my acoustic album, but it's not really an acoustic album at all. That's just what it feels like, mostly. I'm Italian, so I guess this is an Italian rock record.
