On August 03, it's finally that time again. Then the Frankfurt Römerberg turns into a beautiful, big festival place. For four days around the Paulsplatz, Römerberg, Fahrtor and along the banks of the Main with culinary delicacies, live music, fairground rides and a Ferris wheel will be celebrated according to centuries-old tradition. The origin of the Mainfest is not historically verifiable, but is generally fixed to the year 1340.
The old fishermen's festivals are precursors and models of the Mainfest, and therefore the historic fisherman's sting on the Main (on Sunday from 16.00) is also one of the absolute highlights of the festivities.
The whole thing is actually crowned by a grandiose closing fireworks on Monday evening that this year but due to the persistent drought for safety reasons had to be canceled.
Without a doubt, the Mainfest but still worth a visit with the whole family. And the traditionally offered food like "Ochs am Spieß" also ensure that no one has to go home with an empty stomach. So: don't miss it!
