On August 2, it's finally time again. Frankfurt's Römerberg will be transformed into a beautiful, large fairground. For four days, there will be celebrations around Paulsplatz, Römerberg, Fahrtor and along the banks of the Main with culinary delights, live music, fairground rides and a Ferris wheel in keeping with centuries-old tradition. The origins of the Mainfest are not historically proven, but are generally dated back to 1340.
The old fishing festivals are the forerunners and role models of the Mainfest, which is why the historic fishing tournament on the Main (on Sunday from 16:00) is one of the absolute highlights of the festivities. The whole thing is crowned by a magnificent closing firework display on Monday evening (from around 22.00), which once again showcases the beauty of Frankfurt's banks of the Main. Without a doubt, the Mainfest is worth a visit with the whole family. And the traditional dishes on offer, such as "Ochs am Spieß", also ensure that nobody has to go home with an empty stomach.
