Terry Lee Goffee - the ultimate Johnny Cash tribute
American artist Terry Lee Goffee was seven years old when his father brought home a Johnny Cash record. He has been a fan ever since, and sometimes his "ghost." With his strong body, staring eyes and rich voice, Terry takes on the role of the "Man In Black". During his legendary tribute shows, the American not only plays songs by Johnny Cash, but also merges with his idol. This makes his concerts a unique experience.
Johnny Cash was known for his distinctive bass-baritone voice and the so-called "Boom-Chicka-Boom" sound, the fast, pounding sound similar to that of a moving freight train, as well as by his critical and unconventional lyrics. His musical spectrum ranged from the 50s with country, gospel, rockabilly, blues, folk and pop to alternative country at the beginning of the 21st century. His concerts at Folsom and San Quentin prisons in the late 1960s are legendary.
Johnny Cash wrote about 500 songs, sold more than 500 million records and won 13 Grammy Awards. In 1992, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and is still considered a music icon by many.
Cash was given the epithet "Man In Black" as a statement, "I wear black for the poor and down-and-out who live in the hopeless, starving part of town, I wear it for the inmate who has long paid for his deeds, but who is there because he is a victim of the times."
After Johnny Cash's siblings attended a show by Goffee, they were full of praise for the musician and his special brand of performance. Tommy Cash said, "The show is great, my brother would be proud." Joanne Cash Yates added it was a wonderful show that she would recommend to anyone. Both siblings have also performed with Goffee during some of his concerts.
