The MMK is devoting a major exhibition to the artist Marcel Duchamp. It is the first comprehensive exhibition in two decades to show works from all creative phases from 1902 to 1968. A total of 32 works by the Frenchman, born in 1887, are on display on levels 1 to 3 of the museum. The focus is on the central themes of Duchamp's art: thinking, acting and being beyond all categories and conventions. Being apodictic and at the same time allowing indifference. Creating works that are not works of art and yet are art. Leading the discourse without dictating it. Never repeating oneself. To be lazy instead of busy. To be free.

The resistance in form as in thought is unbroken in the work of Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968), his questions are present: what is art? What constitutes an object? What is a subject? What unites and separates science and poetry? What defines our gender and identity? Questions that visitors to the MMK can now also discuss in detail.

With persistent precision as well as welcome randomness, with stubborn anarchy and humorous lightness, Marcel Duchamp created works that, as it were, through their precision and openness only find their completion through us viewers. Thus, the work changes with us and in time.

Thanks to Duchamp, we know that everything can become art and that thinking has no limits.

To see the exhibition until 03. October 2022 at the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt.
