"Facing Duality"addresses, as the title suggests, the principle of duality, with the album not simply relating two contrasting poles, but showing how apparent opposites can form an unspoken unity. Thus Maria Baptist and Jan von Klewitz, beyond their different personalities as soloists, form an organic body of sound. In this respect, Facing Duality stands more for what unites us and undertakes the adventure of expressing this through music.
Maria Baptist has so far released 14 albums and given countless concerts on renowned national (Jazz Baltica, Jazz Fest Berlin) as well as international stages (Nancy Jazz Pulsations (FR), Hong Kong Jazz Festival). Maria Baptist is professor of composition and improvisation at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin.
Over the course of his musical career, Jan von Klewitz has played and recorded in hundreds of collaborations, exploring a wide range of genres from contemporary to avant-garde jazz. His innovative style has brought him to leading European jazz festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival (NLD), JazzBaltica (DE) or Jazzweek Burghausen (DE).
Concert starts: 8:30 pm, opens 1 hr. before start.
