Trees set up in military formation, a binary code made of napkin rings, or talking bouquets of flowers: Maria Loboda's sculptures and installations are enigmatic and full of secrets. Only at second glance do their encrypted messages reveal themselves. With her readymade objects and installations in space, the artist transfers knowledge of the long past into the immediate present. Like an archaeologist, she digs into cultural history, examining archaic ideas and supposed truths about the order of the world. Loboda will develop new works for the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt and present them in the freely accessible rotunda. Her artistic approach will follow the antagonism between form and content: With simple aesthetics and economy of means, the artist enhances the poetic effect of her sculptures and spatial installations. Maria Loboda (*1979 in Krakow) lives and works in Berlin. She studied with Mark Leckey at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main from 2003 to 2008. Her works have already been presented in group and solo exhibitions worldwide, including at the Kunsthalle Basel, the IAC - Institut d'artcontemporain in Villeurbanne, The Power Plant in Toronto, the Kunstvereine Braunschweig and Bielefeld, and the Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid. In addition, Loboda participated indocumenta 13.
