Lodern Glow in the Forests of the Night (Arde brillante en los bosques de la noche)
Puppet theatre, drama and feature film are magically and brilliantly brought together by Argentine storyteller and director Mariano Pensotti in his new world- and time-spanning play. The starting point is the centenary of the October Revolution of 1917 and its rather unknown feminist achievements. Pensotti tells the story of three contemporary women and their "revolutionary" connections: A professor teaches seminars on the Russian Revolution at the University of Buenos Aires, encounters the spirit of revolutionary feminist Alexandra Kollontai, and discovers that revolutionary as well as feminist thought has long since ceased to play a sufficient role in her own life. A former guerrilla fighter returns from Colombia to her German family, long since strangers to her, where everyone is unemployed and idealizes the failed fighter. A young television presenter, as hip as she is critical, travels to northern Argentina, where descendants of Russian emigrants work as strippers and callboys for middle-class women. Most recently, Pensotti thrilled audiences at the Mousonturm in 2015 with his work Wenn ich zurückkomme, bin ich ein Anderer. Then, as now, the eternally relevant question permeates his pieces, which are as humorous as they are intelligent: how can political ideals be implemented in everyday life?
