There are few artists today whose qualities are as significant as those of Mark Lanegan. Whether it's sound, songwriting, voice, his stirring lyrics or his overall aura, Lanegan exudes something mysterious and dramatic that is second to none. As a result, the ambitious musician confessed years ago that his special talent leads to curious commissions: "I'm often asked to sing at funerals. My voice seems to possess the optimal tone for sad events." His special ability to place his work in a wide variety of stylistic contexts has earned him a worldwide fan base. Whether it's psychedelic, grunge or stoner rock, folk ballads, melancholy blues or pumping electronic music, Mark Lanegan always finds the right darkly mysterious tone. Lanegan earned his spurs as the head of Seattle-based formation The Screaming Trees. With them, he released seven albums between 1986 and 2000, some of which rank among the gems of the grunge era. At the same time, he began to advance his career as a solo artist in 1990 and has released 10 albums to date, on which he has been supported by important colleagues, including Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) and Josh Homme from the Queens Of The Stone Age. After the end of the Screaming Trees he therefore docked for two albums with the Queens. He used the past decade to expand his experience. He co-wrote three sustained folk albums with Isobel Campbell (Belle & Sebastian), lent his voice to British electronic acts like UNKLE, Bomb the Bass and Soulsavers, and entered into a collaboration with longtime friend Greg Dulli (The Twilight Singers) under the name The Gutter Twins. Their debut "Saturnalia" is considered one of the best rock albums of 2008. After that, Lanegan returned as a solo artist: he released not one but two acoustic albums in 2013, followed by the double CD "Has God Seen My Shadow?", an anthology of the best solo songs from the last 25 years. This was followed by "Phantom Radio", the third album by his Mark Lanegan Band, which in addition to him consists of three Belgian musician friends. One year later, "A Thousand Miles Of Midnight", a complete remix album of "Phantom Radio", followed. For the new work "Gargoyle", the enthusiastic collaborator already entered into an intense liaison with Rob Marshall at the time of songwriting, who had once been on tour with the Soulsavers with his former band Exit Calm and wanted to thank Mark for his involvement back then. Together they wrote, uniquely marrying blues, rock and jangly vintage electronics. One thing that's new here is a shining through positive, underlying mood that hasn't been heard from him before.
