The Buzz Book of a Great Author
"If I could have written like this 20 years ago," said author Martin Walser, "I would have written it 20 years ago, but I couldn't then." The book of thoughts "Instead of Something, or The Last Rank" has been almost unanimously invoked as a masterpiece, a plot-free final stroke of prose, a vital meditation. It was published by Rowohlt Verlag. There is unanimity, then, about the work of a controversial figure, a contending co-shaper of this country: born in Wasserburg in 1927, Walser has received many prizes for his literary work, including the Georg Büchner Prize, the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade and the International Friedrich Nietzsche Prize. The author will be in conversation with literary critic Christoph Schröder this evening.
