Who Am I Now?"-there was a sense of dissatisfaction at the beginning. And that, although everything in Matt Gresham's life was for the best: Living in a surfer's paradise in the southwest of Australia, he celebrated his first successes with his music and was nominated for his track "Whiskey" in 2014 as "Song Of The Year" at the WAMAs (West Australian Music Award) - besides he could pursue his second passion, skateboarding. Actually, things were going perfectly for the 29-year-old. But that was the point: MATT GRESHAM felt trapped in paradise - "I have to get out of here. I want to grow! See new things!"
With a one-way ticket and his acoustic guitar, he explored the U.S., Asia and Europe. Lived sometimes days, sometimes weeks, sometimes months in the same country. A warm-hearted and open person like MATT GRESHAM can experience a lot. Thanks to his debut album we can now take part in it. August sees the release of Who Am I Now, his musical travelogue full of self-reflection and insightful songs.
"I've experienced orchestral music in Europe, electro in Berlin, hip-hop music in New York ." Those influences are echoed on Who Am I Now, an impressively eclectic singer-songwriter album in which quotations from hip-hop, soul and electronica pop up as naturally as samples from train stations MATT GRESHAM recorded on his phone or snippets of sound from conversations with friends.
Matt Gresham can sing grippingly, write strong songs and travel well - reasons enough to invite him to tour Germany. Surprise: he's been here before, of course, living and shooting music videos in Berlin or opening his own concerts with "Moin, Moin!" at the Reeperbahn Festival in 2016. In September 2018, he'll be performing there again and all over the Republic.
