With works as composer, pianist and producer, Max Richter is one of the most successful personalities of the contemporary music scene today. Whether with minimalist synthesizers or imposing symphony orchestras, Richter has spun an innovative web from which he creates music for solo albums, ballets, concert hall performances, film and TV scores, video art installations, and theatrical works.
Richter is a sound finder: although classically trained at prestigious universities such as Edinburgh University and the Royal Academy of Music in London, the German-born composer draws inspiration from the entire sonic world that surrounds him, stylistic boundaries melting into minimal music, ambient pop, electronica, even punk. In 2012, he was commissioned by Deutsche Grammophon to recompose Vivaldi's "Four Seasons", winning the prestigious ECHO Klassik Award. In 2015, he stayed in the German classical charts for 72 weeks with his album "From Sleep". His compositions can also be heard in the Netflix production "Black Mirror", in Denis Villeneuve's "Arrival" and in Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island".
On 5 June 2018, the award-winning master of contemporary classical music can be experienced at the Alte Oper.
