Indie Rock Concert at HALLE
Maxïmo Park have recently released "Risk To Exist", their sixth studio album. A clear further development, and that in several directions: If the quintet belonged so far rather to the spearhead of British indie rock, Class of 2004, the band from Newcastle has politicized itself on the one hand, and lets where you might have felt reminded of The Clash in the past, now increasingly think of bands like The Jam; not least Feargal Sharkey comes to mind. Which is also related to the fact that there is a stronger orientation towards soul and groove. Suits them well. Asked about the politicisation, singer Paul Smith puts the following memorable line on record: "I was worried some songs might have lost their relevance by the time they came out, but unfortunately that's not the case." Right he is. Unfortunately. Incidentally, "Risk To Exist" was recorded with Tom Schick (Wilco, Beck, White Denim) at Wilco's Chicago studio. You can hear that, too.
