Also in 2017, the Spectaculum casts its shadow ahead: contracts with the approximately 90 merchants have been concluded, 50 camp groups from all over Germany and neighbouring countries have been carefully selected and preparations are in full swing. From 26th to 28th May, a total of around 1000 active people will once again bring the period from 500 to 1500 to life in the city park "Wormser Wäldchen". In addition to a large market, the camps from late antiquity to the late Middle Ages and an extensive hands-on program, visitors can again look forward to musical highlights: With "Duivelspack", "Ranunculus" and "Feuerschwanz" three well-known scene bands have confirmed their coming. The beginning of the concert round will be made on Friday, May 26, 8 pm "Duivelspack" from Detmold. In historical garb, the trio tackles current issues of the day and holds up a mirror to its audience in a humorously intelligent way. The music is based on three-part singing, which has become the trademark of the three musicians over the years. The trio themselves describe their music as FunFolk: stand-up comedy elements mix with cheeky song lyrics and masterfully performed music. The audience is an integral part of the show at every performance and never just a passive listener, so interacting with the people in front of the stage has also become a trademark of the band. On Saturday evening, 8 pm, the minstrels "Ranunculus" from the valley of the Loreley then come to Worms and inspire the visitors with their great treasure of old instruments. With their music, the group brings to life the attitude to life and the culture of a bygone era. Before their performance, they teach the old dances to all who enjoy moving to medieval music. One thing is for sure: At the concert of "Feuerschwanz" on Sunday, May 28, 4 p.m., it should once again not keep the visitors on their seats on the "Äschebuckel". The "medieval folk comedy" of the German-speaking band from Erlangen is too rousing. Not only supposed medieval professions and customs are sung about, but also classical fairy tales - and above all the mead. Musically you can look forward to precisely played rock music with charming folk influences, which is completely taboo in its instrumentation and does not want to limit itself to drums, bass and guitar. Feuerschwanz" skilfully combine humour, history, festive mood, show and energetic rock music. In addition to the concert highlights, you can of course also experience a lot of medieval music at the Spectaculum. Hurdy-gurdies, flutes, bagpipes, shawms and nyckelharpor - these are just some of the medieval musical instruments visitors can listen to at the 16th Worms Medieval Market. Thus, while strolling through the square, they will encounter the "Martinsvögeln", the "Duo Wormez" and the band "Satyrias". The Worms Spectaculum Since 2002, the "Wormser Netzwerk Lebendiges Mittelalter" (Worms Living Middle Ages Network) has been inviting visitors to the Spectaculum every year. Market, camp and spectacle in the meadow and tree landscape of the Rheinaue in the south of Worms, more precisely: in the city park "Wormser Wäldchen", meanwhile attract thousands of visitors. The market lives on the honorary engagement of many garbed people from Worms and surroundings. The official organizer is the Kultur und Veranstaltungs GmbH. Admission to the Spectaculum costs eight euros for all three days, those in costume pay five euros. Children up to sword size are free.
