On Friday, November 2, 2018, at 4 pm, Michael Riedel will speak under the title "Made and Unmade Catalogues" in the exhibition Michael Riedel. Graphic Art as Event about his artist books. For the finissage on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at 3 p.m., curator Eva Linhart invites visitors to a public guided tour of the exhibition, addressing Michael Riedel's approach to art between the classical role of the artist and the question of the creative human being in the face of artificial intelligence. The guided tours are included in the admission price. With Grafik als Ereignis, the Museum Angewandte Kunst is showing works by Michael Riedel at the interface of applied and free graphic art. The exhibition addresses the fact that graphics now permeate all areas of life and are the current art form in the digital age. The exhibition begins with a work that stands at the beginning of the then 22-year-old's successful international career: the early work entitled Signetische Zeichnung (Signetic Drawing), created in 1994/95. This involves over 1000 drawings, which also include non-drawn drawings. In 2016 it was acquired by the Städelscher Museums-Verein e.V.. Now, in a spectacular staging, it can be seen in its entirety for the first time in a museum. This is followed by works from the time when Michael Riedel was a master student at the Städelschule under Hermann Nitsch, publications in the span of artist's books, catalogues and editions, followed by works that explore the pictorial process and the reinterpretation of HTML codes into abstract self-portraits as "poster paintings", to culminate in a space-encompassing installation that transforms the museum architecture.
