You can read this text about the young band from Brisbane, Australia, or just fire up their debut EP "Die Waiting". Then it should be clear to anyone who knows anything about guitar music that you can't miss Mid City's tour in September. Because Mid City will get you fast and grab you hard. Their songs are catchy, their guitars mangy, their melodies big, their lyrics nagging. Everything sucks right now? Depressed? Broke? Alone? Mid City help. Their "Dead Broke Blues" is the right ass-kicking for those moments. "You got the power, kid / It's right here ready to go," Joel Griffith sings, and then the chorus kicks in, "It's alright / Whatever feels right / Dance off your dead broke blues." If that doesn't make you want to clench your fist and bump into your friends in front of a stage, you won't feel anything else.

Guitarist Ben Woodmason, by the way, found Griffith in classic fashion via a want ad for his band. He was looking for the angry brother of Killers singer Brandon Flowers, Ben later told us - and hits the spot pretty well. Another statement about Mid City is in a similar vein. When Olli Schulz went on the podcast we all know (yes, that's right "Fest und Flauschig") to sing Mid City's praises, putting "Old Habits" on the playlist for it (Fidi & Bumsi) and even name-dropping Mid City again on Instagram, one listener wrote enthusiastically, "They sound a little like Gaslight Anthem on speed." As much fun as these comparisons are, however, Mid City need not fear being seen as copyists. Their songs and especially their sweaty, likeable live shows show very clearly that you're dealing with a band that doesn't need comparisons of that kind.

Meanwhile, Mid City have docked with Haldern Pop Booking and will tour extensively in September. They also have two shows lined up at the Reeperbahn Festival. So "Die Waiting" is no longer the word for German fans, who by the way eagerly bombarded the band with tour requests and are now finally getting what they want.
