Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791)
Dramma per musica in three acts
Libretto Giambattista Varesco, after the libretto by Antoine Danchet for the tragédie lyrique "Idoménée" by André Campra first performance 1. Version 1781 in Munich, 2nd version 1786 in Vienna.
In Italian. With German supertitles.
"Idomeneo" depicts the story of a war returnee who is haunted by destruction all the way home. For as the price of a happy return home, he has promised a human being as a sacrifice to the god of the sea.
Mozart's great choral opera is a study of a world order that has fallen apart, in which the forces of nature and wars must be survived with great hardship. As in "Magic Flute", in "Idomeneo" it is imposed on the generation of children to endure trials and transition life to a more wholesome world.
