The Music Discovery Project was one of the last performances of the hr-Sinfonieorchester before the lockdown last year. The title of this year's program is now deliberately chosen as "SchwereLos."
"We want to give the audience some lightness and moments of happiness in these times," says orchestra manager Michael Traub, "so we've unceremoniously turned the concert into a livestream event of about an hour in the hr-Sendesaal." For the concert evening on Thursday, March 11, at 8 p.m., the hr-Sinfonieorchester has invited Hamburg singer/songwriter Pohlmann and violinist Pekka Kuusisto. YOU FM - the young radio program of the hr - presents the concert, which can be experienced on www.hr-sinfonieorchester.de. Afterwards, it will be available there and in the ARD-Mediathek as video-on-demand.
For many people in the Rhine-Main area, the Music Discovery Project is their annual highlight of the concert winter. Just last year, the crossover project drew more than 4,000 people to the Jahrhunderthalle. Now the hr-Sinfonieorchester returns to its place of origin with its 15th edition of the Music Discovery Project. In the hr-Sendesaal, Pohlmann's melancholy song world meets music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Missy Mazzoli, Robert Schumann, Philip Glass, Claude Debussy, Johann Sebastian Bach and Edvard Grieg.
Another guest is this year's "Artist in Residence" of the hr-Sinfonieorchester Pekka Kuusisto. With his playful virtuosity and art of interpretation, this musical border crosser combines classical and non-genre sounds and styles. The current "Composer in Residence" of the hr-Sinfonieorchester Bryce Dessner will also play an important role. The head and guitarist of the American rock band "The National" should actually be performing live on stage as a guitarist. Now he fires up the suggestive finale of this year's Music Discovery Project with one of his current compositions.
