The hr-Bigband is one of the best formations of its kind worldwide today. Based on the playing ideal of jazz, it stands for a wide range of styles and genres.
The hr-Bigband brings together seventeen outstanding musicians who not only enjoy a high reputation as soloists.
Daily rehearsal or concert activity as well as the highest artistic standards form them into an ensemble that confidently meets all challenges.
Regularly, the hr-Bigband explores the possibilities of a contemporary jazz orchestra and overcomes stylistic boundaries - for example, when it develops new projects together with Mongolian or North African musicians, with pop stars or with renowned composers of new music.
At the same time she keeps alive - beyond any museality - the great tradition of big band jazz with programs from Jelly Roll Morton to Duke Ellington and Gil Evans to Peter Herbolzheimer.
