The king and his queen are having a big party: their long-cherished wish for a child has finally come true! However, to celebrate the birth of Princess Aurora, the parents invited only twelve fairies. They put all the good qualities in the child's cradle. The angry 13th fairy Carabosse, however, pronounces a terrible curse, which the Lilac Fairy is just able to mitigate with her wish: Into a 100-year sleep Aurora shall fall if she pricks herself on a spindle on her 16th birthday.
The years pass. The king banishes all spindles from the land - but one spindle is forgotten. On the day of her 16th birthday, Aurora discovers an old woman at a spinning wheel in a secluded chamber of the castle. She pricks her finger with the spindle and the evil fairy's curse is fulfilled. The entire court falls into a deep sleep ...
A tall hedge of thorns grows around the castle, but Prince Florand is brave and clever enough to get to the sleeping princess with the help of his friends.
