What happened to the Musketeers after all these years? How are the three handsome men who, in Alexandre Dumas's immortal hit novel, have their adventures as the king's elite fighters and take the young hottie d'Artagnan into their midst? They are still quite well, that is, still alive, still drinking, still loving. Like old rock stars, they sit in their club, immortalized as it were, and re-enact the indestructible stories and intrigues: the attempt on the Queen's honor, the six-day race from Paris to London to the enemy of the state Buckingham, the deflowering of young d'Artagnan in my Lady's love trap, the siege of the Huguenot stronghold of La Rochelle, and many more.
But behind the scenes, the inventor of the centralized surveillance state, Cardinal Richelieu, is at work. He knows how to turn emotions into politics, uses the persecution of the faith for his own purposes and leads King Louis XIII to the pinnacle of power, not without enriching himself handsomely in the process. He is the model for all secret councils and presidential advisors and finds an equal adversary in the demonic seductress Milady de Winter.
