About this evening:
Linguist Professor Higgins lives for the study of languages and dialects. With fellow scholar Colonel Pickering, he makes a wager: Eliza Doolittle, a flower seller, is to become a lady of cultivated expression within six months. Mercilessly, Higgins instructs Eliza until she can finally pronounce phrases like "It's so green when Spain's blossoms bloom" flawlessly.

At the horse races at Ascot, he introduces her to high society for the first time. Eliza falls out of character, but young Freddy Eynsford-Hill is charmed by her and instantly falls in love with her. At the Diplomatic Ball, Eliza's beauty and perfect appearance make her the idolized center of the evening. Higgins and Pickering celebrate together the bet they won.
When Eliza realizes that she was only the object of an experiment, she leaves in a rage. Higgins sets out to find her and runs into Eliza at his mother's house. They instantly get into another argument. Home alone again, Higgins realizes that the young woman means more to him than he thought.
