A special kind of pleasure: Germany's highest surf wave on the fourth floor of MyZeil in Frankfurt as a guest
You want to forget you're in the big city for a few moments? Stand on a surfboard and ride a wave while the water splashes in your face? And then chill out in a relaxed beach atmosphere with a view of the skyline? Then you should definitely come to MyZeil from 11 August. Just like last year, the shopping center on the Zeil is presenting the "Surf Days" again in 2017. A mobile surfing facility on the 4th floor will ensure that a visit to the shopping centre on the Zeil is a very special experience and that a real holiday feeling is created in the heart of Frankfurt. On the 4th upper floor, pure water sports fun with three pumps and 60 cubic metres of water awaits all experts and those interested for nine days.
For Thilo Trefz, the operator of the mobile surf wave in the "Surf Days" series, the guest appearance on the terrace of the MyZeil is something very special. Indeed, it is no rarity that he brings this mobile surf experience to big cities. For example, he has already been a guest on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. But to offer the whole thing above the roofs of Frankfurt is of course a very special logistical challenge. After all, the individual parts of the installation are not exactly light and somewhat bulky. But with combined forces the team around Trefz managed it and the facility was built up and made ready for operation in two days.
The facility should of course not only appeal to experienced surfers. Also everyone who just wants to try out how it feels to stand on a surfboard is welcome. It's up to you whether you dare to stand upright on the board or whether you prefer to kneel or lie down and feel the force of the artificial wave. Either way, the whole thing is fun. You have to bring your own towels and swimwear.
You can book your perfect wave for half an hour at a time and share it with a maximum of four other boarders and an experienced coach who will be on hand to offer advice and support. In addition, the board and, if necessary, a warming wetsuit are provided on request. The price for the half hour is 15 euros per person, including a shopping voucher worth 10 euros, which can of course be redeemed directly in the MyZeil Shopping Center.
Naturally, the whole thing is not comparable with real surfing. Trefz has chosen a very nice comparison for this. It's like a coffee to go in a paper cup. It can taste very good, but it is not comparable to a cup of coffee prepared by a barista, which you can enjoy in peace at a picturesque lake. Therefore, a visit to the "MyZeil Surf-Days" may not be a real substitute for extensive surfing at the sea - but this great action is always a very special surf fun with skyline view.
MyZeil Frankfurt offers approx. 44,000 sqm of retail space around 100 shops on five levels. Located in the middle of Frankfurt's main shopping street Zeil, the shopping center is perfectly integrated into the city center. Around 1000 parking spaces are available to customers. Architectural highlights are the spectacular curved glass roof and the 42-meter long interior self-supporting escalator, the longest in Europe. The center already attracts around 50,000 customers a day, and up to 100,000 at weekends. 15 million customers visit the center every year. Throughout the year, MyZeil offers its numerous visitors interesting and spectacular promotions and events that make shopping an incomparable experience.
