Tidy elegance and dazzling soulfulness: in this tone, Newmen answer the question of originality in postmodernism. "Soft Ware", the second longplayer and fourth release overall from the band from Frankfurt am Main, serves up unagitatedly complex compositions between wave, krautrock and pop. In collaboration with producer Elias Förster (Sea Moya, Still Parade), a smooth album has been created that persistently plays around the idea - or the illusion? - of the new. Retromania and neomania, analogue and digital, backwards and forwards - this record blurs opposites with almost relish, opening up a new angle of view with each of its 13 tracks.
In doing so, the quintet remarkably unagitatedly exposes the sleight of hand of modern consumer culture, shedding labels and adding a link to the value chain by taking the mechanisms of the mainstream to the absurd in dance step. It is not without a wink that Newmen have named their new album "Soft Ware" - alluding to both the form and content of the present day. For the "soft goods" are always the "soft goods", in other words: soft, mellow and at the same time somehow intangible. Even the product music cannot escape this development. Paradox? Perhaps. But more topical than ever - and still immensely fascinating.
