All hell breaks loose in Hoboken. Five nuns from the order "Little Sisters of Hoboken" have snuck out of the convent to pursue their secret passion of playing bingo. When they return, they make a grisly discovery: all of the remaining 52 nuns have died of fish poisoning after eating a bouillabaisse. Since their money is only enough to bury 48 of the deceased sisters, they have to put on a benefit show. After all, they want the remaining four frozen sisters to receive an honorable burial as well. Now the five nuns turn out to be real show talents: Mother Superior, who once started out as a tightrope walker in the circus, Sister Amnesia with her ventriloquist's dummy that takes on a life of its own, Sister Maria Leo, who wanted to join the ballet, and so on. This macabre frame story is the beginning of a madcap show that is a tongue-in-cheek satire of convent life, Catholicism and show business that elicits real raves, but never gets tasteless.
