Open Day at the Bundesbank

On the first weekend in July, the Bundesbank will open its doors in Frankfurt for the second time. It would like to give citizens the opportunity to get to know the institution in a varied way. The motto of the 2017 Open Day is "Take your own picture of the Bundesbank". And that is meant literally: all visitors will receive a photo book that they can fill with printed-out mobile phone photos. Guests can thus document, for example, how they mastered individual play stations. Each exhibit refers to the Bundesbank in a playful way: In a surfing simulator, for example, visitors can understand how the central bank ensures stable prices through the balanced use of monetary policy instruments. At photo printer stations, photos can be printed out and pasted in the appropriate place in the photo book, similar to a Panini album. This allows guests to take home information, emotions and memories. A new attraction on the headquarters grounds is a giant money processing machine that will be demonstrated in live operation. On an anniversary trail celebrating the Bundesbank's 60th anniversary, guests can delve deep into monetary history, all the way back to the beginnings of the Deutschmark. And this time there will be three gold bars to touch and lift - two at the headquarters location in Ginnheim and one at the head office on Taunusanlage. A variety of live bands will be providing the atmosphere at both locations. The stages will also be used for short interviews with the members of the Executive Board. Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann will also be taking questions from the public. In addition, there will be guided tours of the building, a varied children's programme, quiz rounds and demonstrations by a trapeze artist.
