HR Big Band: Jim McNeely

In the year that marks the 100th. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first record in jazz history, the German Jazz Festival stretches the arc even further back to the spiritual heartbeat of all African-American music.
Fixing the concert is Cory Henry, the acknowledged gospel great of the younger generation. In his home community in Brooklyn, people were already calling the five-year-old "Master Cory" because he could accompany any song on the Hammond organ, no matter what key it was pitched in.
The boy wonder quickly developed into a virtuoso on every keyboard instrument from piano to synthesizer and a master of all styles from jazz to fusion.
In the Grammy-winning musician collective Snarky Puppy, he regularly provides the most spectacular solos.
In the Alte Oper, Cory Henry will celebrate his gospel roots together with the HR Big Band under the direction of Jim McNeely and also preach his new gospel of a contemporary music between funk and jazz with his own formation, the "Funk Apostles".
