Opera for children from 5 to 10 years offers an introduction to the wonderful world of opera and can become a door opener to the Great Hall of the Opera House. This season, operas by Deborah Einspieler will again be adapted for children in the Holzfoyer - entertaining, exciting, with a great love of music. A handful of singers, piano accompaniment and the puppeteer Thomas Korte provide the best opera entertainment. The children's operas usually last about 1 to 1 1/4 hours without intermission.
Rigoletto
The plot is set in a time when there were princes and their fools: The Duke of Mantua flies from one love adventure to the next, making more than just friends in town. Most recently, he has his eye on a beautiful lady whom he met in church and is dying to meet. But there seems to be a stranger belonging to her. For the Duke all this is no reason not to celebrate. At the ball he makes fun of his old court jester Rigoletto, as he is supposed to have a very young girlfriend. At the height of the party, Count Monterone shows up. He is furious because his daughter, like many other women before her, has been deserted by the Duke. Rigoletto can hardly contain his gloating until the Count finally curses both the Duke and Rigoletto in his wrath. The progression of this story makes for one of Verdi's most exciting operas ever!
