After the residents of the Opernplatz had to put up with noise and construction fences in front of their businesses during the years of reconstruction of the Alte Oper, the mayor at the time, Dr. Walter Wallmann, had the first Opernplatzfest, then called the Lucae-Brunnenfest, held in 1978 as a gesture of thanks. Since then, the Opernplatzfest has been one of the most beautiful, traditional and popular of Frankfurt's "new city festivals. An average of 300,000 visitors come here year after year to enjoy international specialties and live music.
After the pandemic-induced break, the Opernplatzfest is finally coming back. Due to a shortened planning phase, however, there is no live stage this year. Nevertheless, not only culinary great versatility is offered. Every day between 6 and 10 p.m., various walking acts will be on display. There are headless gentlemen on stilts, visual comedy, juggling or shoeshine service - that is sometimes funny, sometimes breathtaking, sometimes fascinating, but in any case always extremely entertaining.
You see: Whether rain or shine - there is no reason to stay away from the Opera Square Festival in the 42nd year. Year to stay away.
