The band Phraim was founded in 2016. The name says it all: here, frames are exploded. Phraim sees itself as a collective in the stretchable realm of modern jazz. All four band members compose and arrange pieces that, despite their versatility, result in a homogeneous whole. Simplicity and complexity, improvisation and planning, voice and instrument, lyrics and vocalise, to name but a few antinomies that the band encounters, unites and plays off against each other with a joy of playing.
So you can find a ballad touching in its simplicity as well as a rocking composition, the cover of a well-known German pop band or the poem setting of an old English poet. Courageously and always tastefully, the quartet overcomes boundaries together, sets tangents, breaks parallels and thus stands out from the crowd.
Four independent characters, who look back on a long common history, show their colours and like to expand their own frame sometimes.
