The smell of roasted almonds and sweet crêpes wafts through the air. At the stalls, merchants advertise their Christmas decorations. Everything is somewhat more contemplative, somewhat more quietly than with the large neighbor on the Römerberg.
The Christmas market in pink on the Friedrich Stoltze place reminds of tendencyful village celebrations in cosy atmosphere. With only one difference, which is actually none.
Expressly, the offer of the stalls is not only aimed at homosexuals. Here everyone is welcome. From the public that is gratefully accepted. Colorfully mixed, whether homosexual or not - that plays no role here. And also most guests hardly interested.
Pink instead of rainbow
In fact: Pink dominates, be it as a color of the booths or in the work clothes of the bartenders. In the media, this is understood as a homosexual stereotype and misinterpreted, regrets Bubenheim, the event manager. But she was just looking for a good motto. Pink, she says, is simply a great color. If she had wanted to set an example for gays and lesbians, purely hypothetically, she would probably have chosen bright rainbow colors. "And that really doesn't fit with Christmas," Bubenheim explains firmly.
