After the sensational birthday concert at the Volkshaus Zurich, the furious conclusion of the "South tour" at the Arena Di Verona, as well as the great and emotional concert at the Hallenstadion Zurich from August 2015, the Sicilian singer-songwriter and charismatic poet Pippo Pollina returns to the stage in 2017 - with a new program and a new album!
Pippo Pollina captivates with his irrepressible creativity, with which he also surprises his many loyal fans throughout Europe time and again. Be it with lyrical ballads, poetic protest songs or rocking songs: Pollina's language always remains sensitive and tender. In 2017 he will be on tour with his band and trio.
Pippo Pollina
Pippo Pollina was born in Palermo in 1963 into a middle-class family of peasant origin. He grew up in the Sicilian capital, where he also attended law school in the 1980s and the "Amici della Musica" conservatory for the study of classical guitar as well as music theory.
At this time he is very involved in the fledgling anti-Mafia movement, working for the Catanese monthly magazine "I Siciliani". However, with the murder of Giuseppe Fava by the Mafia, the young Sicilian retires from the newspaper editorial office. Together with friends he founds the band "Agricantus", with which he plays in six years of intensive concert activity in and outside Italy until 1985. The musicians also hold seminars in middle and high schools in Sicily, discussing, among other things, the Mafia and related problems.
In the autumn of 1985, Pippo Pollina leaves Italy and embarks on a journey whose destination he has not previously specified. Only after three years of travelling the world as a street musician does the young musician settle in Switzerland, where he has now lived in Zurich for over 20 years.
