Dieter Schnebel (1930 - 2018) was one of the most versatile composers of his generation. Free of any fads of the last 50 years, his art in all its various manifestations always looks to tradition and revives it in a refreshing new way. This concert, whose program reveals just a sampling of the breadth of his compositional output, is a commemorative concert. Works from 1962 to 1991 will be heard. The oldest piece, Schnebel's "Nostalgia: Solo for a Conductor" was premiered at the first Fluxus Festival in Wiesbaden in 1962. "Pan" (1978/88) will be interpreted in a version for recorder and harpsichord, and the most recent work is the "Four Pieces" for violin and piano, completed in 1991. The most extensive composition in the concert is the "B-flat Major Quintet" (1976/77), about which Schnebel said in 1985: "Some of my own pieces from the later 1970s, such as 'Pan' for flute and accompaniment, 'B-flat Major Quintet' and 'Schubert Fantasy' perhaps also go a little in the post-modern direction, which was, after all, about the time. Friends from the former avant-garde call me reactionary for this." Students of the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst under the direction of the renowned cellist of the Arditti Quartet, Lucas Fels, who had a long and intensive collaboration with Dieter Schnebel, interpret his compositions. An introductory lecture with Ernst August Klötzke will take place at 2:30 pm.
