Crossover and literary rock 'n' roll by a Czech-German border crosser
.NThe Literature Houses Network awards the 2018 Literature Houses Prize to the Czech novelist, playwright, screenwriter and publicist Jaroslav Rudiš. In his texts, Rudiš traces society with irony and a fine sense of everyday anxieties using particular types who are often the victims of tragicomic events. In doing so, he likes to go underground and to the fringes of places, times and lives in order to take an all the sharper look at reality. Thus his books are cool, funny, critical, political, poetic, resistant, anti-bourgeois, touching and seductive - almost: literary rock 'n' roll. On this evening, Rudiš will read from his diverse literary oeuvre - for example, the most recent volume of short prose written in German, "Der Besuch von Herrn Horváth", or his novel "Nationalstraße" (Luchterhand). It will be moderated by Jan Drees, literary editor of Deutschlandfunk.
