The genes of our blood, they are broken, gummed up, used up, watered down and gone. Elisabeth Lear is at the helm of a major global corporation. With unyielding rigor, she has run the family business for decades. Now, grown old and tired, she decides to leave the company's fortunes in the hands of her three sons. The only condition: All three must swear an oath to love their mother. Cornald, of all people, the youngest and Elisabeth's favourite, evades the mendacious contest. Incensed by his behavior, she disowns him, setting in motion a fatal chain of events that will end in the downfall of her own empire and her family. Belgian author Tom Lanoye has transcribed Shakespeare's famous drama "King Lear" and transposed it into the circles of today's high finance. Lanoye shows the struggle for power and money as an inner-family ordeal, with ultimately devastating consequences for people and markets. NFollowing his production of "Endstation Sehnsucht", which was hailed as "great theatre and great cinema" (Die Deutsche Bühne), Kay Voges, artistic director at Schauspiel Dortmund since 2010, is directing in Frankfurt for the second time. With "Queen Lear" he continues his work at the interface of theatre and video art. (Source: Schauspiel Frankfurt)
