The human beatbox of the Italian Nino G. in the intro of "Monsieur Bibendum" or Chico Freeman's "Bonita Latina" seems like a frontal attack on sensitive jazz souls - but it absolutely fits. Like the celebrated Swiss jazz hero Christy Doran (guitar), Dominique Muzeau from Madagascar (bass) as well as the Colombian percussionist Rodrigo Rodriguez, the American tenor saxophone dandy belongs to the all-star conglomerate of Swiss drummer Reto Weber. After almost 10 years of existence, the "Squeezeband" is now quasi internationalized, creates even more furore, and their music is even danceable at times. Weber squeezes out musical styles, sounds and rhythms to his heart's content and rushes from jazz to hip hop and back again in a colourful musical rollercoaster ride with huge fun.
Reto Weber comes from Solothurn and studied contemporary percussion in Basel. His almost 50-year career has taken the multi-percussionist to many countries in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa.
