Richard, Duke of Gloucester, is willing to become "a villain". His goal is the crown. Beyond all political morality, he begins a ruthless game of intrigue. The first victims: his brothers George, Duke of Clarence, and the reigning King Edward IV. After the death of the former King Henry VI, Richard also asks for the hand of the widow of the Prince of Wales, only to have her murdered later, as well as the young crown princes. And they do not remain the last victims of his lust for power - until the women, despite different political interests, unite to form a counterforce that can eliminate Richard and put an end to the bloodbath. Thus, what he bloodily gained is finally bloodily snatched from him. A political thriller that mercilessly exposes the libidinal nature of human power struggles. Richard is one of the most fascinating figures in world literature: cold intelligence, rhetorical brilliance and virtuoso art of disguise distinguish him. He is a master of manipulation and corruption. At the same time, however, he is a romantic utopian: because he has been denied love, he swears off human love and decides to create a new society on the ruins of the old order.
