Well-designed public spaces are an important task for urban planning and landscape architecture. Transport planning comes in as a third actor in this limited space. Bicycle traffic plays a central, connecting role in all these areas; it can become the key to success. In order to maintain and further improve the quality of life, more space is needed on streets and squares, more green and open spaces in an increasingly densely built-up and intensively used city. FAHR RAD! shows what urban development can look like that will attract even more people to the bicycle in the future - and promotes this gentle reconquest of the city with projects from all over the world. The focus is on cities such as Copenhagen, New York, Karlsruhe and Oslo. They show how the path to a sustainable and social city can also lead through planning for a bicycle-friendly city. Accompanying the exhibition were sketches of ideas for Schweizer Straße in Frankfurt am Main by architects, urban planners and landscape architects. This street connects the two locations of the DAM: the museum with its archive and the library (21 April - 13 May 2018, ground floor gallery). The exhibition is accompanied by the catalogue "Fahr Rad! Reconquering the City". The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) with funds for the implementation of the National Cycling Plan 2020. The curators of the exhibition are Annette Becker, Stefanie Lampe and Lessano Negussie.
