The live year 2018 starts with a bang. The rock legends are coming back. What first crossed stages in 2014 and experienced an even more successful reprise in 2016 is one of the highlights of Germany's recent concert history. An obvious, yet still rare concept has now become a real brand. No normal rock festival, where the following band hopes that the predecessor will be finished soon and that the audience won't be completely cooked off. And yet a gigantic rock experience: energetic, euphoric, poignant.
The Rock Legends are the pinnacle of German rock music. Interaction is capitalized not only with the audience, but also among the musicians. An enthusiastic togetherness: passionate collaborations, unexpected duets, exciting constellations. And always at eye level with the fans. A gigantic live show with many emotional moments. The fact that the tours in 2014 and 2016 sold out quickly was no coincidence.
The 2018 Rock Legends season includes 23 concerts for which one would have to find exclusively superlatives to describe it even halfway accurately. Factual: the big hits, the personal favorites, the new songs. And most certainly a tidbit or two from the chart-topping Rock Legends CDs, where album No. 3 is now due out in the fall of 2017.
The 2018 lineup represents more than 160 years of combined stage experience and 60 million albums sold. This starts with this year's special guest: Matthias Reim, who at the latest since his big hit "Verdammt, ich lieb dich" is considered the institution on the fine line between rock, pop and Schlager. In addition to selected summer open airs in 2017, the charismatic singer is taking enough time to concentrate on working on a new album. At the Rock Legends 2018 Matthias Reim joins the ranks of his already set artist colleagues with his usual power.
New, but only conditionally new, is Maschine. For 47 years Dieter Birr was the frontman of the Puhdys, with whom he was also a fixture on previous Rock Legends tours. He is on stage with new top-class musicians and presents songs from his two Top15 solo albums.
But traditionally and quite naturally, he also has the cult hits of the Puhdys in his luggage.
City, the cult band from Prenzlauer Berg, who this year celebrate the 40th anniversary of their hit "Am Fenster", which was gold-plated even in Greece, are also an integral part of the Rock Legends in 2018. In addition to their cult classic with the sprawling violin solos and other hits, the musicians around Toni Krahl bring tracks from their new album "Das Blut so laut" such as a reissue of "Unter der Haut" and "Marias Worte" with lyrics by "Am Fenster" poet Hildegard Maria Rauchfuß.
Also set for the third time are Karat. Their now 42-year history, which they will enrich with another album in September 2017, stands for dense, multi-layered compositions, arrangements that have been thought out down to the last detail and exuberant musicality. Songs that come across as rather gentle, but never powerless. Helene Fischer, Chris de Burgh, Matthias Reim, Peter Maffay but also Scooter have covered Karat songs. There are many, without exception, good reasons for this.
