The jazz quintet Roofer, founded by Swiss double bassist and composer Luca Sisera, performs the balancing act between avant-garde and traditionalism with nonchalant ease. The band has already impressively demonstrated this with their albums "Prospect" (2015, Leo Records) and "Moscow Files" (2017, Leo Records), which garnered much praise from the international trade press. After numerous tours, festivals and concerts, Roofer was able to make a name for itself far beyond the country's borders as a daring, playful and experimental jazz collective. But also outside of Europe, namely in Russia and China, the agile quintet has effortlessly played its way into the hearts of the audience.
With the new recording, which will be released in spring 2019 on "nWog", the label of German trombonist Nils Wogram, the band will open a new chapter. On the basis of the numerous concerts, the band's language has once again developed strongly, which has allowed the sound cosmos of the collective to expand wonderfully. Exactly at this point the thread for the new album is taken up: As before, intricate rhythms, rapid unison parts, latent swing fantasies and hymnal soundscapes serve the five renowned jazz musicians as an improvisational playing plateau. The result is complex and innovative music that is as liberated as it is form-conscious, and which remains equally challenging for the musicians and the audience. So it comes as no surprise that the extreme climbers who also call themselves "roofer" and who climb around unsecured on the highest buildings in the world with a great sense of adventure, sophisticated technique, know-how and experience, serve as a metaphorical model for the band.
